United States: Natural Gas Freeze-Offs Reach 17 BCF and Approach Historic Record

An Arctic cold wave is causing major disruptions in U.S. natural gas production. Daily losses are approaching levels reached during Winter Storm Uri in 2021.

Wood Mackenzie revealed that natural gas freeze-offs in the United States reached 17 billion cubic feet (BCF) on January 25th, a level close to the 18 BCF record set during Winter Storm Uri. An Arctic weather system is currently sweeping across the country and generating significant operational disruptions. Freeze-offs refer to production shutdowns caused by equipment freezing at gas facilities.
