Gabon: Bourdon Oil Project Advances Toward Final Investment Decision

The Bourdon oil discovery reaches a new milestone. Panoro Energy announced that the project, located on the offshore Dussafu Marin permit in Gabon, is progressing toward a final investment decision (FID). The information appears in an operational update published by the Norwegian company on January 21. The precise validation timeline remains undetermined at this stage. A Development Scheme Based on Three Wells Subject to this FID, Panoro Energy envisions an initial development scheme for the field based on three wells clustered around a single production area. The company indicates it has identified other potential locations near the Bourdon site, without specifying their potential development. BW Energy, the Bermuda-based permit operator, had mentioned in April 2025 a campaign of four production wells linked to the field development. The Bourdon discovery dates back to March 2025. BW Energy had then announced the identification of a crude oil reservoir following drilling operations at approximately 4,135 meters depth. The project is part of a broader dynamic on the Dussafu Marin permit, where several developments are underway. MaBoMo Phase 2 in Parallel In late October 2025, a final investment decision was made for the MaBoMo Phase 2 project, located on the same permit. Several drilling operations are scheduled in this context, with first production targeted for the second half of 2026. Panoro Energy states it has completed new seismic campaigns on neighboring areas to identify future exploration sites. On the Dussafu Marin permit, BW Energy holds 73.5% of the interests, alongside Panoro Energy (17.5%) and Gabon Oil Company (9%). The block's production comes from several oil fields, including Moubenga and Walt Whitman. The site currently has 14 producing wells, distributed among the Tortue (6), Hibiscus (5), Hibiscus South (2), and Ruche (1) fields. Production Stabilized in Q4 2025 Extracted volumes are processed by a floating facility operated by BW Energy, dedicated to oil processing and storage. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the permit's gross production reached approximately 30,500 barrels per day according to the operator. Net production reached approximately 22,400 barrels per day for BW Energy and 5,343 barrels per day for Panoro Energy. The simultaneous advancement of the Bourdon and MaBoMo Phase 2 projects reflects the intensification of activities on the Dussafu Marin permit. The FID validation for Bourdon will determine the development pace of this field in the coming months.
