National Grid and TenneT Germany Launch GriffinLink, a 2 GW Offshore Wind Interconnector

The British and German grid operators announce a cooperation to develop a multi-purpose interconnector linking their offshore wind farms. This project, presented as a European first, targets commissioning by the late 2030s.

National Grid and TenneT Germany have announced their cooperation on GriffinLink, a multi-purpose interconnector (MPI) project designed to link the British and German electricity systems through their offshore wind infrastructure. This announcement was made at the North Sea Summit in Hamburg. According to both companies, the project would simultaneously connect up to 2 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity between the two countries.
