Africa REN Inaugurates 16 MWp Solar Plant with Storage in Senegal

Africa REN has inaugurated Walo Storage in Saint-Louis, Senegal. This 16 MWp solar plant coupled with 20 MWh storage represents a €40 million investment and would constitute a regional first for frequency regulation.

Developer Africa REN has officially inaugurated the Walo Storage plant in Bokhol, in the Saint-Louis region of northern Senegal. The ceremony took place on January 22 in the presence of local administrative authorities and Papa Toby Gaye, Chief Executive Officer of Senegal’s national electricity company Senelec, representing the Ministry of Energy, Oil and Mines. The facility had been commissioned in July 2025.
